LM Montgomery was the JK Rowling of 100 years ago. Her groundbreaking novel, Anne of Green Gables, became a huge and instant success, bringing her immediate fame and fortune. The fiery Anne Shirley was a complex character with whom many people could easily relate.

This whole lesson material is for intermediate/upper intermediate level, and will take about 1 hour. It is essentially reading and discussion. There are two reading sections: firstly the background to Lucy Maud Montgomery and Anne, then secondly an excerpt from one of the novel’s most famous scenes.
